Wisdom teeth start erupting in the early adult years after turning 17 or 18 years old and may come in at different times. We can extract them whenever they come in and you can return to work and school either the same day or next, depending on the case.

How Are Wisdom Teeth Pulled?

Wisdom teeth can come in straight or at a strange angle. They can grow oddly because most people’s mouths are too small to accommodate these four teeth in the back of the mouth. They can also be impacted. Here is what happens when you prepare to have your wisdom teeth removed.

The dentist will do X-rays to see how they grow, and if they grow into the jawbone, under the gum, or against other teeth.
The dentist will put a topical anesthetic on the gum to numb it for a shot of a local anesthetic.
The patient will be given a shot of the local anesthetic to numb the area.
A dentist or an oral surgeon will extract the tooth.

Wisdom teeth extractions can be simple if they are growing straight. It is just like any other tooth extraction using a local anesthetic. Impacted wisdom teeth can result in a more complicated surgery, but even those extractions are routine. We offer all forms of sedation from laughing gas to sedation and general anesthetic.

Impacted wisdom teeth are when the tooth grows into the gum, the back part of the jaw, the jaw bone, or into or under other teeth. This can cause pain and problems later. People don’t need wisdom teeth today, and having them pulled as they come helps keep other teeth from being too crowded or crooked.
